Inspiring Students, Patients and the Community Sonoran University of Health Sciences’ New Community Commons

Sonoran University of Health Sciences is proud to announce the opening of the Sonoran University Community Commons, which integrates academics, patient care, retail space, exercise, wellness and healthy food, with the goal of promoting the health of patients, students, staff and the citizens of Tempe, AZ. The first building of its kind at any naturopathic college, the Commons engages the public as it reshapes the Sonoran University experience. It also generates clean electricity, provides shade and reduces energy costs through the installation of solar-covered structures over 80% of all Sonoran University parking spaces. Abundant light, evidence based design, and sustainable and non-toxic materials create an atmosphere that delights the eye as it inspires healing, learning and community engagement. The top-of-the-line furnishings are functional and environmentally sustainable, providing students, patients and the public comfortable and ergonomically sound seating.

Highlights of the Commons include:

Sonoran University Pain Relief Center At Sonoran University’s Pain Relief Center, the staff specializes in addressing the underlying causes and provide pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic solutions, including manipulation, acupuncture, injection therapy, platelet-rich plasma therapy, physical therapy, fluoroscope imaging, cryo-nitrogen therapy and more. By integrating the health care perspectives and practices of interventional pain specialists, acupuncturists, naturopathic physicians, physical therapists, and massage therapists, the Center decreases reliance on hierarchy and respects the contributions of all members of the treatment team, including patients.

Nourish™ Café at Sonoran University Nourish features delicious dishes that can be made gluten-free, soy-free and peanut-free. Enjoy everything from teriyaki rice bowls to salads and sandwiches. Owner Kirstin Carey, a Certified Holistic Nutritionist, and Executive Chef Dan Santos, also offer meal planning for the public.

The Teaching Kitchen is the home for Sonoran University’s community education classes in nutrition and cooking. Rather than just learning about healthy diets, participants get to eat and help prepare delicious recipes and meals

And by shopping in the Medicinary, a 501 (c )(3), you are helping to support the students at Sonoran University and the work Sonoran University does in the community with underserved communities.

Yoga Studio Sonoran University offers a variety of yoga and other healthy movement classes to the public. The new light-filled studios will help you manage your mind/body balance and relax and stretch your muscles.

Library If you’re looking for in-depth information, the library offers the most complete medical databases, books and journals available.

Classrooms, Student Lounge and Study Rooms For Sonoran University students, the Community Commons offers state-of-the-art, hi-tech classrooms and study rooms that may be reserved via iPad.
