May is always an exciting month for the naturopathic profession! On May 2nd the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) DC Federal Legislative Initiative (DC FLI) will take place on Capitol Hill. AANP will offer workshops to prepare participants to educate US elected officials on naturopathic legislative priorities. ND practitioners and students will meet with Senators’ and Representatives’ offices on the final day of the DC FLI. This is an important time for practitioners, students, and supporters of naturopathic medicine. It gives us a chance to let our collective voices be heard, network and learn vital information about how NDs fit into health policy.
This year AANP is requesting inclusion in Medicare. The AANMC will also be taking part in a meeting with the House Committee on Energy and Commerce to educate them on the role of NDs in the health care system and ask for inclusion in graduate medical education. In April, we attended western and central regional meetings for the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions. We educated advisors on how to spot a potential ND candidate and in general on naturopathic medical education and admissions.
