CCNM – Boucher Campus Welcomes Students Back This Fall

Following safety protocols, select students have been invited back on campus to complete the practical portions of classes.

At the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine – Boucher Campus (CCNM – Boucher Campus), Western Canada’s only CNME-accredited naturopathic medical school, we are committed to the health and safety of our students, staff, and community. Since closing our campus doors in March due to COVID-19, we quickly transitioned to remote learning. As restrictions were lifted, we followed government guidelines to ensure the practical components of our classes could continue and do not compromise student learning. As we observe our phased Return to Campus plan this fall, CCNM – Boucher Campus is excited to welcome first-year students virtually from Canada, United States, and New Zealand. Despite these challenging times, we dedicate ourselves to ensuring our returning students and incoming cohort experience our strong community.

The Boucher Clinic Re-Opens for On-Site Visits

To ensure the safety of both patients and staff, the Boucher Naturopathic Medical Clinic (BNMC) began offering virtual telemedicine appointments in April. Telemedicine has supported our patients’ continuity in receiving the care they need while ensuring our students earn the 1,200 hours of clinical training required for the professional Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine designation. Our dedicated clinic staff provided dispensary items throughout the spring and summer in order to ensure patient health regimens were maintained. The BNMC is excited to use telemedicine to provide access to care for those who live in underserved locations or who have accessibility issues.

On July 6, BNMC reopened for in-person care in conjunction with ongoing telemedicine appointments. We have implemented safety measures and guidelines for reopening to maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, faculty, and students at our campus clinic.

CCNM – Boucher Campus Sweeps the NPLEX Again

This February, our students displayed their intellectual prowess and delivered another excellent performance on the Naturopathic Physician Licensing Exam (NPLEX). Compared to the North American average of other CNME-accredited and candidate schools, CCNM – Boucher Campus students received a 100 per cent and 96 percent pass rate on their exams.

We believe our rigorous Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine program, which incorporates principles of research-based learning theory, conventional academic wisdom, and invested mentorships best prepares students for the naturopathic licensing board exams. Our unique academic philosophy coupled with our small class sizes and cohort model, encourage familiarity with, and establish a strong foundation for each student at Boucher. Supporting British Columbia’s broadest scope of practice in Canada for naturopathic doctors, CCNM – Boucher Campus offers a naturopathic medical education unlike any other.

Congratulations Graduates

CCNM – Boucher Campus is pleased to congratulate the graduating class of 2020. We recognize the courage and strength it takes for students to shift during unprecedented times, and the accomplishment of completing the program under these circumstances is monumental. “The final push for graduation is always one of the most demanding periods of our education,” says Luke Mountjoy, a recent graduate and this year’s recipient of the Spirit of Boucher award. “Both the academic and clinical teams have worked tirelessly to provide the students with the best education possible. Shifting to electronic charting and telemedicine in our final semester has provided learning opportunities for students, supervisors and patients alike.”

Luke Mountjoy – recipient of the Spirit of Boucher award

An alumni of the University of Victoria with an honours degree in Biopsychology, Mountjoy began his journey at CCNM – Boucher Campus in 2015 after spending a year working in the pharmaceutical industry. The experience showed him that his calling was not in “sterile pharmaceutical research but rather an empathetic clinical setting,” he says. Nominated by CCNM – Boucher Campus’s faculty and staff, Mountjoy receives the Spirit of Boucher award which recognizes and celebrates the outstanding accomplishments of a graduating student who best represents the ideals, principles and values of CCNM – Boucher Campus. “I am extremely humbled and honoured to have received the Spirit of Boucher award,” Mountjoy says. “Naturopathic medical school provides more than its fair share of challenges, to be able to navigate these situations with a positive and balanced disposition has been key to my academic success and mental wellbeing.”
