May 7, 2014 Director’s Update

Happy Spring! This was definitely a challenging winter for many across the U.S. and Canada. In the spirit of Spring, we welcome a totally redesigned website and the rebirth of our newsletter!

Please take a moment to visit www.aanmc.org – You will see updated content, and a cleaner, more streamlined feel to the site. Our monthly newsletter will highlight the schools and exciting advancements in the field of naturopathic medicine and naturopathic medical education.

Great things have been blossoming, one such new development is Maryland becoming the 18th state to license NDs. Congratulations to Maryland and The MDANP!

After over two years of work, the AANMC Council of Clinical and Chief Academic Officers (CCACO) is close to completion of our clinical competency document. This document serves to provide the core competencies of a graduate from an accredited naturopathic doctoral program in order to align curriculum, define expectations of graduates and educate all stakeholders regarding the practice of naturopathic medicine.

The expectation is that this competency document will serve to guide current and future programs of naturopathic medical education. It is entering a period of public comment and is being vetted through the Naturopathic Coordinating Council, Canadian Coordinating Council and Council on Naturopathic Medical Education.

The AANMC just finished hosting our second virtual fair on April 15th. We had approximately 150 prospective students and pre-health counselors interesting in this growing field. The virtual fair was a great opportunity for information sharing and education about the great things our ND schools have to offer!

As always – you can count on AANMC to bring you educational webinars on various topics in naturopathic medicine. Please try to attend an event! You can find the most recent ones here.

In Gratitude,
